Just to let you know that Phoenix 1.7 firmware will be released today.

Major evolutions are:

• GUI, Alarm and UPnP bugs fixing
• Wi-Fi reconnection process improved
• Power Management: Battery charging algorithm was entirely redesigned for autonomy improvement and overheating prevention. This evolution requires a full battery charging cycle to be initialized (~10 hours).

Moreover, one cool feature appears (for geeks ):

UPnP DMR enhancement

The Phoenix Wi-Fi can now be remotely controlled by any kind of Digital Media Controller (DMC) and used to listen to radio stations/podcasts or to stream contents from a Digital Media Server (DMS).

Few words to inform you that the new firmware 1.6.1 will be released tomorrow morning with major improvements in terms of audio processing.

The key features:

• Audio framework complete redesign

In order to solve most of radio station stream playing issues, our tech team has focused on :

1. updating the decoding engine
2. updating the caching engine
3. full supporting of WM9 standard

Outcomes of these developments are the compatibility with ABC Australia and RTE (Ireland) radio stations for example.

• WPA2 support

The Phoenix Wi-Fi radio can be connected to a Wi-Fi access point secured with WPA2 system.

• Content catalogue localization

Another major feature is the opportunity for the user to select his default content catalogue, based on his localization or cultural background, directly from the Phoenix Wi-Fi radio device.

For example, if I am American and I live in Paris in France, I can select the default US content catalogue directly from my Phoenix Wi-Fi radio.

US and French catalogues are currently available, more country selections will be appear within the next weeks.

• Bug fixing

GUI bugs are fixed in this release.

First, Thank you for your pro-activity either on the previous article’s comments section or on the forum.

So, for this Phoenix v1.5 release, the main improvements are:

• Audio streams management improvement

- Streams with introduction (10- 20s intro, for example: RTE channels)
- More reliable caching/buffering process
- Information message while non supported stream

• Wi-FI management improvement

- Reconnexion is twice faster

• Codecs & Formats

- MPEG-4 ACC Codec
- AAC, MOV, M4A, 3GP, 3G2 formats

• MMI improvement

- Firmware update procedure enhanced
- Security key editor redesigned
- Language coherence between device interface and content catalogue

This firmware will be put into production by the end of the week.

The firmware released last friday was not the one destinated to the live Phoenix Wi-Fi radio products.

Therefore, a new release was made this morning.

The Phoenix v1.5.2 is now the latest Phoenix Wi-Fi radio’s firmware version available.

A quick note to inform you of what is going on the Phoenix platform.

You may have noticed some trouble accessing your favorite radio stations and podcasts these last days , the reason is that our technical team was conducting a really important platform servers migration for our French client Orange – France Telecom.

This migration has succeeded and improves dramatically the platform performance for the future.

For example, the platform’s availability for our pool of devices (liveradio + Phoenix Wi-Fi radio) has increased ,i.e, response times will shorten and overall user-device interaction will be enhanced.

More over, it will help us to develop new interfaces and partnerships with B2B customers in the next future.

From our US Phoenix Wi-Fi radio customers standpoint, the situation will remain slightly unconfortable for the next few days, for the migration on these brand new servers is scheduled for Mid-March and will be associated to a much better designed wifi-radio.biz website.

We, the Phoenix Wi-Fi radio development team, are sincerely sorry for the current uncomplete experience of the Phoenix Wi-Fi radio.
