Hi All,
Just to let you know that Phoenix 1.7 firmware will be released today.
Major evolutions are:
- GUI, Alarm and UPnP bugs fixing
- Wi-Fi reconnection process improved
- Power Management: Battery charging algorithm was entirely redesigned for autonomy improvement and overheating prevention. This evolution requires a full battery charging cycle to be initialized (~10 hours).
Moreover, one cool feature appears (for geeks
):
UPnP DMR enhancement
The Phoenix Wi-Fi can now be remotely controlled by any kind of Digital Media Controller (DMC) and used to listen to radio stations/podcasts or to stream contents from a Digital Media Server (DMS).
Hope you will enjoy these new features, stay tuned more info to come these days…

Baptiste,
yesterday I downloaded 1.7. The radio sat with the charger until this morning at 11.00 am. It showed a full charge on the icon. I unplugged it and connected. It showed full charge (three bars), but immediately it gave me the low battery warning. Within about 3-4 mins, I got the ‘put your battery on charge.’ I let it play and it shut down about 3 mins later. Without plugging it back in to the mains, the radio is essentially frozen. None of the controls work.
I thought 1.7 was supposed to cure battery problems. What’s going on? I do not at this time have a portable wifi radio.

Hi Dan,
As I read your comments, I am pretty sure that the issue comes from your batteries themselves.
One of the major issues of the former charging algorithm was that may had damaged your rechargeable batteries’ autonomy.
My advice is to use new batteries to insure proper functionning.
Regards,
Baptiste,
You were right. Last night I installed a new set of batts, let it charge overnight, and have now played the radio about 2.5 hours today while I worked outside. No problems. In fact it still shows 2 bars on the charge meter.
I will e-mail Mike to let him know that he need not send new batteries, but I appreciate the offer.
Good advice. Thanks for your help.
Dan
Baptiste, many users are wondering why nobody has heard from Com One recently, and are asking if the company is still in business and if it’s safe to buy a Phoenix. Can you please address these questions?
Thanks…
Hi Sam,
Actually you are right, Com One is trying to reduce its marketing effort regarding the Phoenix Wi-Fi radio, as an outcome of the global business climate.
Nevertheless, the company remains in an healthy situation, potential customers can continue going on com-one.biz to purchase our product and we will provide all the necessary support to our customers.
New challenges are coming for us, 2009 will be a really terrific year, and I will explain more deeply what will be going on in a post in the very near future.
Thanks again for your trust and your involvement in our different sites (this blog, the forum and com-one.biz)
Baptiste.
Thanks for replying, Baptiste. I hope that in spite of the challenges Com One will keep open the channels of communication with us Phoenix owners. Please continue to visit the forum to participate in the discussions. Thanks!

Baptiste,
While the player is performing quite smoothly in nearly all respects, I am finding a number of .asx links that will no longer play even though they had previously. Radio New Zealand National and Radio New Zealand Concert are the two most recent failures. Both had previously played fine. I have found an mms:// link for National which plays; but no similar link for Concert. Are .asx files a particular challenge for the firmware in the Phoenix?
Hope you enjoying yourself in Las Vegas at the CES. Some day, I’m going to have to make the trip. A virtual toy store heaven for electronics geeks.

Baptiste, is there an email address for questions about stations in the catalog that are not working, or to request adding new stations to the catalog?
Thanks…
